Activities
Camping and picnicking are only two reasons people
come to Jalama Beach Park. A variety of other activities
and a full service general store and restaurant help ensure
your stay will be a pleasant one. So come see us. You can
rest and relax or go.
Hiking
Our guests say it better than we can
"one of the best walking beaches in Southern California",
Sunset magazine 8/94.
"one of central Californias most picturesque coastal
areas". RV Journal, 6/95.
Fishing Try your luck at one of the most popular
activities here. Many varieties of fish are

Whale Watching
The enchanting California Grey whales migrate along the
park's coastline, moving north from
February through March and south
September through November.
Spouting can be seen right outside the
surf zone. Bring your binoculars.

Bird Watching
Another reason to bring the binoculars to Jalama. This area offers an excellent opportunity to view a number of resident and migratory birds. Some of these include the endangered brown pelican, many species of sandpipers, plovers, seagulls, herons, thrushes and raptors. Winter is a good season, to observe migratory birds and springtime attracts many rare birds.

Rock Hounding
This stretch of coastline exhibits some of the
most interesting geological formations and
depositions, in the central California area.
Many types of rocks and gems are here which
include travertine, agate, chert, Jade, mercasite
and fossils. Also found is petrified whale bone.

Beach Combing
During the winter months storm swells wash up
many interesting undersea treasures; shells and
driftwood are abundant. Winter is also a wonderful
time to view tidal pools. Please respect living
organisms and enjoy exploring at Jalama.

Photography
Jalama is one of the most pristine stretches
of coastline in central California, offering
both the amateur and professional
shutterbugs an excellent place to
photograph wildlife, bird life, landscapes
and sunsets.

Vegetation
This park offers a field day to botany enthusiasts. Many protected
varieties of coastal strand, California natives are growing within
park boundaries. Look for sand verbena, saltbush, sea rocket and
beach buckwheat. |
